I had wanted to film a takeaway show ever since I moved to New Zealand from Sydney. There are so many amazing local bands and so many beautiful locations, the country really lends itself to the whole idea. I have worked with Family Cactus before a number of times, and recently we were planning a video shoot/ takeaway show on a remote black sand beach near New Plymouth. The shoot unfortunately had to be postponed, the band was planning for their first US trip and understandably needed more time. A few days later, the band had their instruments around from a recent gig and the near-empty cafe just seemed like the perfect spot for a Wellington video. James Goldsmith, a great kiwi sound engineer, brought down some mics and his laptop and away we went. Big thanks to Jonathan and Amelia for OK’ing this ‘Off Shoot’ idea for New Zealand. Expect more videos from some great New Zealand artists.
