I fell in love with these songs in total darkness. Late one night on a farm called Clea, a short lovely drive from Captains Flat in NSW, I was sitting outside at a garden table, talking with friends and listening to the macabre sounds of Angus cattle roaming in the darkness. I had never met Jai before then or heard his music. I was glad that the huge smile on my face when he started playing was concealed by the absolute pitch black night. <\/p>\n

\nPork Pies (Jai Pyne): Warm Blood<\/a> <\/p>\n

\u201cWarm Blood\u201d became one of those songs I thought of when we started to make Shoot The Player films; unreleased, raw, and throbbing with heartfelt lyrics and beautifully stitched images \u2013 I would hear it in my head from time and time and wished there was a recording of it out there I could tune into \u2013 but there wasn\u2019t one \u2013 so we made these films.<\/p>\n

Pork Pies (Jai Pyne): Cappuccinos (Working Title: Song for Will)<\/a> <\/p>\n

Alfred Park Pool, known to some locals (or is it just me?) as the \u201cghetto pool\u201d was the perfect desolate setting for us. A quiet, run down, barely used public space with brightly coloured change rooms and just a handful of loyal swimmers; an intimate and quiet little haven in the centre of the city. High rise buildings sparkled behind us and the peak hour traffic rumbled past taking commuters home. <\/p>\n

\nPork Pies (Jai Pyne): The Water<\/a> <\/p>\n

If you like these songs, write to Jai and encourage him to put together an EP! Known as the front man for upbeat Sydney based band The Paper Scissors, Jai rarely has the time to perform as his solo project Pork Pies, but his music is too lovely to go unrecorded. His songs evoke a warm, unsentimental nostalgia for truthful, emotional storytelling, and his lyrics reveal a world where memories are tactile and complex relationships are the nuts and bolts of human experience. His songs draw you in and hold your attention, whether inside a secret darkness, or in soft open light of an ending summers day.<\/p>\n
