LAURA JEAN

Laura Jean: So Happy It Hurts

While I was in Melbourne for Next Wave, Laura joined us on the street to make these little films. Laura mentioned she loved the look of Shoot The Player films, and looking back on the footage I was intrigued by the different aesthetic that Melbourne light has – these films don’t really look like any other Shoot The Player films, do they?

Laura Jean: November

Laura’s intimate, self discovering sensibility struck a chord with me the first time I heard her music. Mesmerising and truthful, Laura’s albums are like much loved storybooks for adults. They unfold with personal history and private experience.

Thank-you Jen Cloher for letting us steal Laura for half an hour and Biddy for stepping in with the violin. And Nat, for shooting.

Wonderfull video and music, but for some reason, don’t know if it is my computer, but all the videos has very vague and low sound. It would be a blast if you could enhance the sound a bit i.e by using a music software (Sony Acid?) for the sound layer on the movie – it would be so awesome to hear the artists without having to turn your monitors up on full volume.

    Keep up the good work
    Love from Arvakur

The sound in these videos was particularly difficult. We filmed out in front of a studio and for some reason we had a lot of interference and the radio mic was unusable, so what you hear is pretty much just the on-board camera mic. Laura’s music is gorgeous though; lovely to watch and listen to.
